We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming (travel photos) to bring you a costume parade! As you peruse these costumes from halloweens yore, keep in mind my mother made all of them (except 2).

1969… Don’t the cat-eye glasses just make the genie outfit?

Halloween 1969

1976….

Halloween 1976I really don’t know what we are, but after these picture were taken, Michelle, Jeri (her sister) and I went driving around with flour in pantyhose, swinging them out of a car at people trying to cover them with flour powder. It didn’t work, but we laughed a lot nonetheless. Oh, and if you guessed my mom didn’t make this outfit, you’re right.

I think this was also around the time that Jeri had me make prank phone calls to some guy asking him to bring a 3 bean salad to a dance (or something). Maybe Michelle remembers it better….

Jumping ahead…. to the 80s…. aren’t Brandon & Ashley cute?

Daffy Duck and a genieBrandon is Daffy Duck – and I wish I could locate the picture of him from the side so you could see his tail poke out. It was really cute. And poor Ashley is stuck in my pathetic attempt to create a genie costume for her. She doesn’t seem to mind, but it’s an embarrassment after the professional costumes my mom whips up.

Princes and the leopard Genie & Leopard

And saving the best for last….

1982. I am a VERY pollinated flower, here with the bee that pollinated me. Ashley was born about 3 weeks later.

A pollinated flower Mr. Bee

I burst out laughing every time I look at this photo. Mostly because I remember Mark wore it to work at Zions bank…. and he rode the bus to get there, with briefcase in hand. For months afterward, customers referred to him as “Mr. Bee.”

How great that he wore it on the bus!! And that he as taking the bus at all! And I love how costumes show up in later years….there is a tigger costume that all 3 of my kids have worn–I am very unimaginative when it comes to costumes. :/ Ashley made a very cute genie. That first pic is pure Halloween GOLD, so classic.

That genie picture of Ashley looks just like Kennedy!

How fun… I love looking at all of these costumes. Grandma is SO talented… wow. I love the idea of the bee/flower. You are so creative. And it cracks me up that dad wore that costume to the bank and on the bus. LOL!
Thanks for posting these.

I’m laughing very hard right now. Mark as a bee on a bus and working at a bank…it’s too much.

I don’t remember the phone call Jeri had you make, but was it that particular phone call that insired us to have Jeri call our classmates for the Hitler Project? LOL.

You and Kris are sooo cute. Your momma did everything well….my mom threw me a tattered clown costume and dug up a witch mask and said “here you go”

Very fun costumes!! Grandma is so talented. We’ll have to get Brandon to dress up more often, it becomes him! I love the bee and flower. I love that Dad/Mark had so much fun with that!

I’m not sure hwo much fun Mark actually had wearing the bee costume, but he certainly was a good sport about it.

Ashlee – you’re right, Genie Ashley DOES look like little miss Kennedy….

We just have to love Mark for this one, don’t we? What a great sport he is. I’m not sure if the whole this is funnier now, or back then. I do remember nearly wetting my pants laughing. Mark, thank you for making us all smile decades later.

My mother makes the most fabulous costumes. I was a little green martian in 3rd grade. Seems like on year I was the fig newton man (isn’t that hilarious?) but I have no pictures to document it. Allison & Cheryl as Thing 1 and Thing 2 was also great.

Mom, what other priceless costumes did you provide us?

Jean on October 31st, 2008 at 3:21 pm

I remember seeing the Thing one and Thing 2 picture.
Your mom was indeed awesome with costumes and cute little baby doll PJ’s

Old halloween pictures are just so fun. I made an alblum of my kids starting at about 2 and have added every year up to and including this year. The grandkids really get a kick out of looking at their parents in Halloween costumes and makeup.

Oh now this wasw a fun trip down memory lane. I loved making the costumes, especially when I had a cheering section thinking they were great. I can think of the mr and mrs Santa that Allison and Michelle wore, also I made a costume from star Trek fro Brandon, a slinky cat costume and a Cesar costume your dad wore. Costume making and wearing was a fun time in our lives Several people wore the Bee costume, but NO ONE pulled it off like Mark. Thanks for posting these photos and thanks for the compliments on the costumes. Fun , Fun Times.

I wish I had a picture of the Thing 1 and THing 2 costume… mom – do you have one in your albums
Yes – I had meant to post the Star Trek pic… here it is. Brandon as Jean Luc Picard.
And Ashley as a much more effective genie than my sorry attempt a few years earlier….
I had forgotten Michelle and I wore the Mr. & Mrs. Santa suits for Halloween – I remember doing so for Christmas (with Nanny playing Santa, I believe) and also on a date to a costume party with ummm…. oh gosh, I can picture him but can’t remember his name.

I don’t even remember the mr and mrs santa costumes?! I’m losing it, at the tender age of 47.

Does anyone have a picture?
