Twilight - The MovieAshley and I saw Twilight yesterday with a theater full of adoring fans… including some very silly girls who screamed and clapped when Edward first appeared on the screen….

First off, it was great having some mother-daughter-movie time.  Just fun to go hang out.  I miss being able to do that, so we must take advantage of the opportunity whenever it arises.     It was also great to have reserved seats.

The movie was….  good.  Not great, not bad.  Better than ok.  Some characters seemed well very cast (Bella, Alice, Dr. Cullen, and Jacob in particular) and others were good, but not outstanding.  Bella and Edward had definite chemistry on screen.  Edward (actor) didn’t bug me as much as I thought he would – he was pretty good… but he wasn’t perfect for the role.  Laurent had a fabulous chest.  Character development was limited, and important characters weren’t given enough screen time. – It all felt a bit too shallow to capture the intensity of feeling in the book.  Felt more like a Cliff Notes version.    I’m not sure someone seeing the movie without having read the book would really “get” the depth of the story.

I could have done without the weird tree climbing scene (not part of the book, as I recall), and I was disappointed in the sunlight meadow experience.  It surprises me they didn’t spend a bit more on making this film, knowing how very popular it was.

Of course the scenery in the movie was spectacular – it’s such a beautiful area.  Though almost everything had a blue cast to it that I didn’t see that much either time I visited…

So see the movie – it was a fun afternoon diversion.  And I’ll look forward to on screen sequels.  But it really doesn’t live up to the standard of the book, imo.

Have you seen Twilight?  What did you think?

LOL, yes, our reviews are very similar. And you’re right- Laurent’s chest was just spectacular. Wow.

It was fun going to the movie with you! But you’re right- the movie definitely doesn’t live up to the Book. Not even close.

Who is Laurent? Is she in any other movies?

I have read a bit about this online. You can’t escape it lately. The guy – Edward… he was in Harry Potter.. the guy who was killed. I was apalled that they would kill off someone that beautiful..

I’ll likely see the movie, but not read the books. My eyes are SOOOOOO bad I can’t even read the ingredient labels on food products anymore.

Yes, Robert, that was a crime against humanity to kill off such a beautiful Cedric!
I haven’t seen Twilight yet, I’m waiting for the teenage girl fervor to die down…. sounds like it was about what I expected it to be from everyone’s reviews.

I had basically the same feelings after seeing Twilight last Friday: good, but not great. But that is how I felt about the book, really. I think they did fairly well, and the parts that mattered (i.e., the Bella/Edward chemistry, melancholy mood, scary James) were pulled off excellently.

The worst parts of the movie, in my opinion, were the action scenes. They seemed totally lackluster and sometimes downright silly (Roadrunner, anyone?)

I think Robert Pattinson is beautiful, but I couldn’t really see him as Edward before I watched the film. His acting made it work for me.

Well, they’ve already made over $72 million, so hopefully the next movie can only improve!

(Frankly, I’m geeking out over the next Harry Potter film!)

I thought James the tracker was perfectly cast… Its a shame he had to die in the first movie. Laurent was also an excellent cast. LOVED Alice and I liked Bella, Carlisle and After a while Edward grew on me…. His hair do seemed a little ridiculous and his lipstick tooo bright . Also Whomever did Carlisles makeup really needs to blend it in better, especially around the back of his neck.

I enjoyed the movie .. but I have never seen a movie that was as good as the book, this was not an exception.

Liked the Cullens home :o) and the scenery was wonderful.

I asked Javier to take me to Broadway Mall tonight to get Little Javier ‘Candyland’ from Santa. He loves that game. We play it at the children’s library. Then I decided to introduce him to Arby’s as he’d never been there. AS we sat there eating, he looked over at the theaters, and saw Twilight started 3 minutes earlier. Asked if I wanted to go. Sure I did..

I agree the movie was very deep. Just before it ended, he leaned over and asked, ‘is that it? Is it over?” I said, ‘No, something else is about to happen I can sense it.” But then the credit came up and I said, “Well excuse me! I guess it is over.” It didn’t feel right ending like that..

I agree there wasn’t much character development. And I read some reviews on Amazon not long ago, and almost universally the women hated Bella. Can’t understand why. I liked her.

Liked Edward the best. Like Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire, he was a good vampire. Self control. Honesty. Etc. Etc…

I told Javier there would be another sequel, like Harry Potter….

Said: “I agree the movie was very deep.”

Meant to say, “I agree the movie was not very deep.”

Oh and Allison… isn’t it funny you said you didn’t like the tree climbing scene, and it was probably my favorite part.. : )

The scenery they showed in that scene was incredibly beautiful… but there was no tree climing in the book.

Glad you went to the movie Rob… Now you really must read all 4 books…. You will love them..
