Well, those little slugs I was finding a few months ago have become really BIG slugs. They are actually kind of cool looking, but also rather disgusting  - and do a lot of damage in the garden. They have to go.

I’ve tried beer, which did lure a bunch of them to their deaths, but was pretty gross to dispose of.  I’ve used a slug poison that really works, but I don’t like using it because I think it could kill the frogs I like to have around. I’m also using “Sluggo” pellants but can’t tell if it’s doing much of anything….

So I have also resorted to a nightly hunt in the garden. Around 10pm, I wander out with a flashlight and look for slime trails - and usually find at least one big slug each night.

Here is last night’s prize….  (image is actual size)

               A big, yucky slug

I liked his leopard spots (many of them are just dark brown or a sickly pale green) and I like his funky antennae. He’s making his way around the hand shovel I used to scoop him up. (Don’t pick slugs up with your hands - their icky slime takes forever to wash off!). After our photo session, I put him in a plastic bag, tied the knot and stuck him in the trash. Poor slug.

Ok. Slugs totally gross me out. But this one actually looks really cool. Too bad it was necessary for him to be disposed of…

I had no idea sluggs were so BIG !
We don’t have them here… they would dry into slug jerky very quickly

Slug jerky… lol. I wonder if it would become a delicacy….

Jean, you have things like giant roaches, scorpians, tarantulas and snakes! I’ll take my big slugs over them any day! :)

I love this slug post! and I also love the thought of you slug hunting at night…if I were there helping you it would turn into a huge giggle fest wouldn’t it? For some reason I am reminded of you losing (for the millionth time) you contact lens in your front lawn and us getting out the vacuum. We did find it, didn’t we?

I wish you were here to help me hunt slugs. We’d have a wonderful time laughing them out of hiding!

And yes, we DID recover my contact (in one piece) from the grass with the vacuum!

Slugs huh? I can honestly say I have never met one myself…but, now I will know how to deal with them if I ever need to. =) I like the leopard spots. It makes him look a little less disgusting.

I’ll have to try slug hunting sometime and see what I come up with, we can compare stories.

UGFHHHHHHHHHHHh I hate slugs large or small. They are so destructive they can polish of a beautiful plant in one night !!
The slugs we have around here are nothing but grey small slimy creatures that when touch or prodded they shrink up into a hard little football. I HATE SLUGS did I mention that?
