In awe

Anyone else watching the spectacular show China is putting on for the opening ceremonies of the Olympics?

I have found myself getting emotional on more than one occasion as I watch the artistry, beauty, creativity and awesome precision of the performances.

15,000 individual performers, the worlds biggest LED screen on the floor, fireworks as only China can do them – and moving, moving art/dance/song.   Probably the most original, inspired and amazing opening ceremonies ever.  What an incredible undertaking.

Can you just imagine how excited and proud the Chinese people must be about this?  It makes me teary.

The only sad part is that the athletes didn’t get to see it : (

Did you have a favorite performance?

  1. Wow… truly spectacular. The Chinese have always amazed me with their artsy performances. I actually have not watched any of it, but maybe I should start 🙂

  2. I thought it was awe-inspiring too, Allison. Almost overwhelming. I loved the giant firework ‘footsteps’ that led to the stadium and the giant pad they were writing on with their bodies. And what about the giant sea of ‘keys’ that were imitating waves and drops of water that actually had people underneath the keys making those movements. There were just so many amazing, beautiful things it’s hard to pick one.
Those 15,000 performers did China proud.

  3. Oh, I’m LOVING the olympics, I loved the green men with the lights. I was screaming last night when USA won the relay…I have been emotional too.

  4. I was so delighted that you found that link for me to see the opening ceremonies, and watched in awe at the entire event. It was just amazing to me, and so beautiful. I made Craig watch it this evening and I think he was surprised at how awesome it was. Unbelievably grand scale, mindblowingly minute precision.

I love the Olympics. For several years they said the interest in the Olympics was failing here in the US; viewership was way down and no one seemed to care. I hope that’s all been reversed now. I think they are fabulous.

I love to see the competitions and I really enjoy learning about some of the athletes — including those from other countries. I like us to win, but often want to see other countries win instead. And I’m always delighted when a new country joins the competition. I like the unity of the all the countries more than the victory of ours.

I’ve been glued to my TV more in the past 6 days than in the previous 2 months combined.

  5. I just ordered the 4 hour dvd of the opening ceremonies…. here’s the link:

I hope they show even more than they did on tv. In looking at some of the slide shows from Australia and other, I think we missed out on stuff 🙁
