{"id":122,"date":"2008-02-09T03:22:24","date_gmt":"2008-02-09T10:22:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/archives\/122"},"modified":"2008-02-09T03:26:42","modified_gmt":"2008-02-09T10:26:42","slug":"the-joy-of-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/the-joy-of-art\/","title":{"rendered":"The joy of art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"hhttp:\/\/www.chihuly.com\/installations\/slc2002\/index.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/chihulysm.jpg\" alt=\"Dale Chihuly 2002 SLC Olympics\" class=\"floatleft\" \/><\/a>One of the many things I love about living near Seattle is the vibrant art community &#8211; and particularly the abundant art glass found here.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I remember being fascinated and blown away by the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chihuly.com\/installations\/slc2002\/index.html\">exhibits of Dale Chihuly<\/a> (yes, he&#8217;s from here) during the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are literally dozens of art glass studios as well as art institutes\/schools here.\u00c2\u00a0 I wander through the galleries and shop which featuring local artists and am inspired, wishing I had the light, display space and money to create a gallery of these piece in my home&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/flake.jpg\" alt=\"Leaded Glass Snowflake\" class=\"floatright\" \/>Blown glass, dichroic glass, leaded glass &#8211; jewelry, functional pieces and abstract art.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d surround myself with this beauty if I could.\u00c2\u00a0<strong> Art is not cheap.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the past 4 1\/2 years I have lived here <em>(has it really been that long??) <\/em>I have collected 4 stunning leaded glass snowflakes, created by Cheryl Parrott, and a couple of years ago received a fused\/dichroic glass pendant from my cousin, Rob <em>(I still love and wear it Rob!)<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When Margie came to visit in October, I took her to a couple of my favorite local art shops where she, too, was astounded at the quality and quantity of local artistry.\u00c2\u00a0 I think she must have noticed my longing glances <em>(or perhaps my pulling on her arm to &#8220;look at THAT!&#8221;)<\/em> at some of the art glass, because her Christmas gift to me this year was sending me out to pick my favorite glass piece.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Selecting the perfect piece took\u00c2\u00a0repeat visits to several galleries &#8211; but one piece just kept calling me back.\u00c2\u00a0 When the owner said I could take it home and if it didn&#8217;t work, I could return it &#8211; I pulled out the American Express and she carefully wrapped it in bubble wrap.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Orange and and purple are not colors that will go with just <em>any<\/em> decor &#8211; but I had hopes that it would go in mine.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The moment it was unwrapped, I knew it would not be leaving my home &#8211; it&#8217;s <em class=\"b\">PERFECT<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"2\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plate3.jpg\" alt=\"My art glass plate\" title=\"My art glass plate\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s about 17&#8243; across, and\u00c2\u00a0has a custom stand, and looks great in several places in my condo, but I decided it would make the ideal entry piece.\u00c2\u00a0 Not sure if you can tell in this photo, but it almost glows when the light hits it.\u00c2\u00a0 It sits right next to my front door &#8211; so I see it every time I leave my home, or walk down the hall to my bedroom.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t it beautiful?\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <em class=\"b\">Thanks Margie!
