{"id":14,"date":"2007-08-29T18:47:10","date_gmt":"2007-08-30T01:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/archives\/14"},"modified":"2007-08-29T20:37:29","modified_gmt":"2007-08-30T03:37:29","slug":"the-umbrella-tree-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/the-umbrella-tree-incident\/","title":{"rendered":"The Umbrella Tree Incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">In honor of Michelle , who recently paid <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/firstseatfirstrow.blogspot.com\/2007\/08\/alli-me.html\">tribute to me on her blog<\/a>, and who became my bff exactly 32 years ago this coming weekend&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I share with you the <strong>Umbrella Tree Incident<\/strong> &#8211; <em>complete with illustration for your viewing pleasure.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It happened September 9th, 1976.\u00c2\u00a0 Michelle&#8217;s home had several umbrella trees in front.\u00c2\u00a0 With Halloween approaching, we got the bright idea that it would be fun to hide ourselves in the trees and scare trick-or-treaters as they passed by.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Being practical (though silly) girls, we decided to try it out beforehand to work out any kinks.\u00c2\u00a0 Michelle climbed into the tree, we laughed, and I helped her down.<\/p>\n<p>Then it was my turn.\u00c2\u00a0 All went well until I tried to climb down.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t until I was part way out that I realized my waist-long hair had gotten tangled in the branches!\u00c2\u00a0 I needed both hands to support myself and was completely stuck, legs dangling helplessly from the tree.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"6\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/utree1.jpg\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"The Umbrella Tree Incident\" title=\"The Umbrella Tree Incident\" \/>This is how I imagine that it looked&#8230;..<em> I actually drew a picture like this in my journal at the time.\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I needed Michelle to support my legs so I could free my arms to untangle my hair.\u00c2\u00a0 She is quite short, and as she held my legs\u00c2\u00a0my butt was right in her face, which we both found extremely funny. \u00c2\u00a0She was laughing so hard she wet her pants.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That made me\u00c2\u00a0laugh even harder, and I proceeded to fart right in her face.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, she burst into\u00c2\u00a0bigger laughter\u00c2\u00a0 &#8211; and\u00c2\u00a0dropped my legs, sending me into pain and panic &#8211; but both of us laughing hysterically at the same time.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gaining her composure, and urged by my pleading, she came back and held my legs again, my butt resting on her chest now&#8230;.\u00c2\u00a0both of us\u00c2\u00a0still laughing&#8230;.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0so much so that\u00c2\u00a0that I wet MY pants all over her shirt.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Laughing and crying I finally got out of that damn tree with only a few scrapes.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle went in\u00c2\u00a0and changed her clothes &#8211; and we then walked to my house so I could.\u00c2\u00a0 And as we approached my lawn, Brad Tomsic was in the driveway wanting to ask me to a dance (my parents said &#8220;no&#8221; &#8211; because I wasn&#8217;t 16.\u00c2\u00a0 I hated that rule.)\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure he was befuddled as I hurriedly backed away and into the house to change clothes.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, the trick-or-treaters were spared that year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In honor of Michelle , who recently paid tribute to me on her blog, and who became my bff exactly 32 years ago this coming weekend&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I share with you the Umbrella Tree Incident &#8211; complete with illustration for your viewing pleasure.
