\"I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122mFor\u00c2\u00a0a couple of years now I’ve been feeling like an outsider because I just haven’t been able to get into Lost, when nearly everyone I know is enthralled.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Or Battlestar Galactica, despite\u00c2\u00a0the critial\u00c2\u00a0acclaim it receives.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Or Heroes, after the first half of the first season.\u00c2\u00a0 Frankly, it has been a bit befuddling.<\/p>\n

Well, I think I figured out why I can’t get into “Lost” or “Battlestar Galactica”, etc…\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 there are 2\u00c2\u00a0reasons – and both play a part in my apathy towards Lost.<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently I no longer have the patience for shows that require me to watch each week to keep up with what’s going on.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I want resolution<\/em> at the end of the hour, so it doesn’t leave me fretting and worrying whether they’ll stop the bomg in time for another week.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I think three\u00c2\u00a0thilling\u00c2\u00a0seasons of 24 and Alias burned me out.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 When shows have <\/em=\"b\">fanatical religious undertones\u00c2\u00a0– just COUNT ME OUT<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 Lost recently had a “recap” episode where it basically showed you what had happened over the year in a single night and I decided to watch it, to see if I could get pulled into the story.\u00c2\u00a0 As soon as that creepy guy (Ben?) and then John Locke got fanatical about the island and killed people because of their “faith” I was totally turned off (despite the eye candy cast). <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0In it’s final 2 seasons, one of my favorite shows -\u00c2\u00a0Stargate SG1 <\/a><\/strong>– \u00c2\u00a0ventured into a an ongoing battle with an opressive, powerful\u00c2\u00a0alien race called the “Ori” – who claimed to be gods and sent messengers around preaching religion, promising enlightenment & ascension, and then killing anyone who didn’t agree to follow the path.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 “Hallowed are the Ori<\/em>“.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Oh, Just shoot me now.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/strong>Look – they even got CSM (Cigarette Smoking Man)<\/em> from the X-Files<\/strong> to be one of their creepy priors.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Just as they were about to lose me as a viewer, they thankfully\u00c2\u00a0threw in some\u00c2\u00a0NON-Ori episodes.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

I’m\u00c2\u00a0disturbed enough by the irrational religious fanatics in the real world – I don’t want them to invade my “escape” time as well.<\/p>\n

So there you have it.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0I guess I’m still an outsider, but at least I know why!<\/p>\n
