{"id":179,"date":"2008-07-21T02:42:26","date_gmt":"2008-07-21T09:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/archives\/179"},"modified":"2008-07-21T02:42:26","modified_gmt":"2008-07-21T09:42:26","slug":"rate-my-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/rate-my-space\/","title":{"rendered":"Rate my space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/condo_living2a.jpg\" title=\"condo_living2a.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/condo_living2a.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"condo_living2a.jpg\" class=\"floatleft\" \/><\/a>I live in a small, 1 bedroom condo &#8211; less than 800 square feet.\u00c2\u00a0 But after living in apartments for several years I was so sick of white walls that I went <em class=\"b\">color-happy<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/condo_living1.jpg\" title=\"Living Room\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/condo_living1.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"Living Room\" class=\"floatright\" \/><\/a>With the help of Benjamin Moore (and my sister), I painted the living\/dining\/kitchen\/hall (all connected in some way) a combination of Henderson Buff (a pale yellowish green), Monroe Bisque (beige), and Plum Raisin. It sounds like a lot of color, but it looks really cool with the asian feel of my furnishings.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/condo_kitchen1a.jpg\" title=\"Kitchen\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/condo_kitchen1a.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"Kitchen\" class=\"floatleft\" \/><\/a>My bathroom is a lovely taupe\/stone color, and my bedroom is Dijon (mustard yellow).\u00c2\u00a0 There is nary a white wall in the place, other than inside closets.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It took me several months to complete and my right shoulder has never been the same.<\/p>\n<p>While at the\u00c2\u00a0Benjamin Moore paint store, I noticed some really cool shimmering <em class=\"b\">metallic glazes<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Mind you, I have a\u00c2\u00a0love of all things sparkly, opalescent, irridescent and metallic and my mind started racing with possibilities&#8230;.\u00c2\u00a0 unchecked, I could turn my place into a tacky, gawdy nightmare <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/greyhavens.org\/myfamily\/smiley.gif\" \/>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 But I restrained myself and recently\u00c2\u00a0came up with an elegant\u00c2\u00a0plan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bedroom-wal_grid2.jpg\" title=\"Wall Grid\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bedroom-wal_grid2.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"Wall Grid\" class=\"floatright\" \/><\/a>I don&#8217;t have a headboard, and so decided to make an entire wall a lovely focal point for the room using metallic glazes.<\/p>\n<p>I started by designing the general layout for the wall. \u00c2\u00a0 Then I started taping off the squares.\u00c2\u00a0 I could only do one layer at a time, because the glaze has to dry before taping\/painting over the corners with another color.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I used a combination of a small roller brush, a dry sponge and a rag.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m still not sure which method I like best.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bedroomwall1a.jpg\" title=\"bedroomwall1a.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bedroomwall1sm.jpg\" alt=\"My Bohemian Bedroom\" class=\"floatleft\" \/><\/a>It took me about 2 weeks, painting a portion nearly every evening, to get this far.\u00c2\u00a0 I still have a few of the most sheer\/pale squares to go &#8211; but this gives a good idea of how it looks.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>(Click the photo to enlarge)<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a sublte effect, and doesn&#8217;t really show in the photos, but some of these squares really shimmer &#8211; especially when the light hits them just right.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0Once all the squares are done, I&#8217;m will probably sponge over the whole thing with a sheer, shimmery gold glaze so that it catches the light even more.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/beaded1.jpg\" title=\"My beaded curtain\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"136\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/beaded1.jpg\" alt=\"My beaded curtain\" height=\"178\" style=\"width: 136px; height: 178px\" class=\"floatright\" \/><\/a>I love it.\u00c2\u00a0 It looks great with the beaded curtain <em>(real, hand strung amber and gold glass beads &#8211; and shimmery gold ribbon)<\/em> \u00c2\u00a0that leads to my closet.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"b\">Did I mention I like sparkly, shiny stuff?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0So what do you think?\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Are you inspired to create your own shimmering (or other) wall?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I live in a small, 1 bedroom condo &#8211;
