They are actually kind of cool looking, but also rather disgusting\u00c2\u00a0 &#8211; and do a lot of damage in the garden. They have to go.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve tried beer, which did lure a bunch of them to their deaths, but was pretty gross to dispose of.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve used a slug poison that really works, but I don&#8217;t like using it because I think it could kill the frogs I like to have around. I&#8217;m also using &#8220;Sluggo&#8221; pellants but can&#8217;t tell if it&#8217;s doing much of anything&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>So I have also resorted to a nightly hunt in the garden. Around 10pm, I wander out with a flashlight and look for slime trails &#8211; and usually find at least one big slug each night.<\/p>\n<p>Here is last night&#8217;s prize&#8230;.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>(image is actual size)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bigslug2.jpg\" alt=\"A big, yucky slug\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I liked his leopard spots (many of them are just dark brown or a sickly pale green) and I like his funky antennae. He&#8217;s making his way around the hand shovel I used to scoop him up. <em>(Don&#8217;t pick slugs up with your hands &#8211; their icky slime takes forever to wash off!). <\/em>After our photo session, I put him in a plastic bag, tied the knot and stuck him in the trash.
