{"id":300,"date":"2008-10-09T00:45:56","date_gmt":"2008-10-09T07:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/archives\/300"},"modified":"2008-10-09T00:45:56","modified_gmt":"2008-10-09T07:45:56","slug":"the-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/the-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo\/","title":{"rendered":"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><a target=\"resource window\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0307269752\/zulubug-20\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" align=\"left\" onload=\"if (typeof uet == 'function') { uet('af'); }\" width=\"207\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51jrZIwf70L._SL500_AA240_.jpg\" alt=\"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo\" height=\"211\" style=\"width: 207px; height: 211px\" id=\"prodImage\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Based on Kathleen&#8217;s recommendation, I just finished reading the new English translation of Swedish author Stieg Larsson&#8217;s <a target=\"resource window\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0307269752\/zulubug-20\"><em class=\"b\">The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo<\/em><\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">It&#8217;s <em class=\"b\">one of the best mystery\/thrillers I&#8217;ve read in years<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 Getting into the swing of pronouncing all the Swedish names and places in my head <em>(like Saltsj\u00c3\u00b6baden, J\u00c3\u00a4rnv\u00c3\u00a4gsgatan and Aftonbladet)\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0took a bit of an adjustment &#8211; but didn&#8217;t take long&#8230; and worth the effort.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I don&#8217;t want to give anything away, because this a must read for anyone who loves a good Agatha Christie type murder mystery.\u00c2\u00a0 But I will say that\u00c2\u00a0Mr. Larsson wove two different stories together brilliantly.\u00c2\u00a0 A fascinating story that was\u00c2\u00a0hard to put down.\u00c2\u00a0 The characters are original and engaging, he offers lots of interesting twists &#8211; complexity without being confusing.\u00c2\u00a0 Has it&#8217;s dark moments, but doesn&#8217;t overdo it.\u00c2\u00a0 You can tell the author has passion about the issues in the book.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I&#8217;m looking forward to the publishing of the rest of the trilogy in English&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0 and also disappointed that the author died in 2004 &#8211; shortly after delivering the manuscripts for this and 2 subsequent novels.<\/p>\n<p>Have you read it?
