{"id":324,"date":"2008-10-30T00:30:26","date_gmt":"2008-10-30T07:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/archives\/324"},"modified":"2008-10-30T00:30:26","modified_gmt":"2008-10-30T07:30:26","slug":"to-the-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/to-the-beach\/","title":{"rendered":"To the Beach!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After spending a couple of hours in Hoh Forest, Kristin and I decided to head to the beaches for the late afternoon, and hoped to catch a colorful sunset.\u00c2\u00a0 First up was<em class=\"b\"> Ruby Beach<\/em>, about 25 minutes south of Forks.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We were relieved <em>(no pun intended) <\/em>to find a rest room in the upper parking area&#8230;.\u00c2\u00a0 until we got within about 10 feet of it.\u00c2\u00a0 Man, it was <em class=\"b\">stinky<\/em> But we used it anyway.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/eagle.jpg\" alt=\"Bald Eagle\" class=\"floatleft\" \/>We could hear the<em class=\"b\"> roar of the ocean <\/em>as soon as we got out of the car.\u00c2\u00a0 I love that sound. There is a quarter mile trail to get down to the beach, and the first switchback gave a <a href=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/beach2008.htm\">breathtaking view<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And as we walked further down the path I <em class=\"b\">spotted a bald eagle <\/em>just before it landed in a VERY tall pine.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Even with my telephoto lens, this is as close as I could get, and not very crisp.\u00c2\u00a0 He sat there looking cool and posing for my camera for a good 10 minutes.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The haystacks <em>(big, off-shore rocks) <\/em>were amazing &#8211; close to shore and very interesting.\u00c2\u00a0 I decided to\u00c2\u00a0shoot them in a way that got as many of them in as possible&#8230;..\u00c2\u00a0 took a bunch from this angle below.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/rubyrocks.jpg\" alt=\"Haystacks off Ruby Beach\" class=\"floatright\" \/>It wasn&#8217;t til I was sorting through them\u00c2\u00a0back at the hotel that I noticed the <em class=\"b\">rather unfortunate placement and prominence <\/em>of the one the right.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It just looks very <em>erect\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>if you know what I mean.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0It&#8217;s just a bit embarrassing.<\/p>\n<p>We decided to see if we could make it back to <em class=\"b\">First Beach in La Push <\/em>before sunset. After a reluctant 2nd visit to the restroom\/outhouse in the parking lot we sped north, wishing we had Edward Cullen to drive us at break-neck speed.<\/p>\n<p>We arrived a little before dusk and had the beach to ourselves. Kristin scoured the beach for colorful rocks while I took pictures of big foam blobs the waves had left on the sand.
