{"id":419,"date":"2009-03-01T01:06:32","date_gmt":"2009-03-01T08:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/archives\/419"},"modified":"2009-03-01T01:08:34","modified_gmt":"2009-03-01T08:08:34","slug":"utah-is-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/utah-is-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Utah is #1&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"left\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/por.jpg\" alt=\"por.jpg\" \/>A new poll is out that I found quite interesting&#8230;.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 and, frankly, not all that surprising.<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"b\">Utah is the number one consumer of online porn<\/em> <em>(nearly 6 out of 1,000 broadband subscribers)<\/em>&#8230; though they tend to buy less of it on Sunday.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Keeping the\u00c2\u00a0sabbath holy, I guess&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0LOL&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>A few other tibits from the poll:\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Residents of 27 states that passed laws banning gay marriages boasted <em class=\"b\">11% more <\/em>porn subscribers than states that don&#8217;t explicitly restrict gay marriage.<\/li>\n<li>8 of Top 10 Porn-Consuming States <em class=\"b\">Voted Republican <\/em>in 2008 Presidential Election<\/li>\n<li>6 out of the <em class=\"b\">lowest <\/em>10 favoured Barack Obama<\/li>\n<li>States that consume the most porn tend to be <em class=\"b\">more conservative and religious <\/em>than states with lower levels of porn consumption<\/li>\n<li>States who&#8217;s residents agreed with the statements <em>&#8220;I have old-fashioned values about family and and marriage&#8221;<\/em> and\/or <em>&#8220;AIDS might be God&#8217;s punishiment for immoral behavior&#8221;<\/em> also had higher rates of consumption that those who didn&#8217;t agree with those statements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em class=\"b\">Pretty interesting, huh? <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Any theories as to why this may be the case? <em>(I think it probably has to do with repression and something being taboo makes it more appealing&#8230;. )<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You can <em class=\"b\"><a target=\"resource window\" href=\"http:\/\/people.hbs.edu\/bedelman\/papers\/redlightstates.pdf\">read the study\/poll here<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new poll is out that I found quite interesting&#8230;.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 and, frankly, not all that surprising.
