{"id":460,"date":"2009-03-16T03:08:44","date_gmt":"2009-03-16T10:08:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/archives\/460"},"modified":"2009-03-16T03:08:44","modified_gmt":"2009-03-16T10:08:44","slug":"the-garden-isle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/the-garden-isle\/","title":{"rendered":"The Garden Isle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pinkhyb.jpg\" alt=\"Pink Hibiscus\" class=\"floatleft\" \/>Kauai is known as the Garden Isle &#8211; for good reason.  <\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the beautiful (and sometimes strange) flora we have encountered&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/flaminghybis.jpg\" alt=\"A flaming hisbiscus\" class=\"floatright\" \/>Hibiscus is everywhere. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"270\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/peachhyb.jpg\" alt=\"Peach colored, double hibiscus\" height=\"167\" class=\"floatleft\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I love Bouganvilla&#8230;  particularly this salmony\/pink color.  But the deep fuschsia is awe inpiring as well.  <\/p>\n<p>Bouganvilla creates fantastic bursts of color along the roadside, climbing walls, pruned into trees, arching over walkways.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bougen.jpg\" alt=\"Bouganvilla\" class=\"floatleft\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plumeria1.jpg\" alt=\"Plumeria\" class=\"floatleft\" \/>Plumeria is just coming into season. We continue our quest to find pink plumeria blooming on a low enough branch to photograph&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plum2.jpg\" alt=\"Pink Plumeria\" class=\"floatright\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n<p>I LOVED this funky looking blossom below&#8230;  we found a tree covered in them.  I <em>believe<\/em> it is called Ohi&#8217;a Lehua.<\/p>\n<p>It looks like it belongs in a Dr. Seuss book, doesn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/drseuss1.jpg\" alt=\"ohia lehua blossom, aka funky dr. seuss plant\" class=\"floatleft\" \/>Along with a bottle brush tree.<\/p>\n<p>(weird, huh?)  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/drseuss2.jpg\" alt=\"Another dr. seuss plant\" class=\"floatright\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n<p>This tree looked like it was covered with big yellow rananuculus.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/yellowblos.jpg\" alt=\"rananuculus tree\" class=\"floatleft\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pinkginger.jpg\" alt=\"Pink ginger\" class=\"floatright\" \/>There are many red ginger plants around, but I prefer the pink.<\/p>\n<p>An orchid growing in a plumeria tree.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/orchidtree1.jpg\" alt=\"Orchid in a tree\" class=\"floatleft\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"179\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/blueflower.jpg\" alt=\"Interesting blue flower\" height=\"264\" class=\"floatleft\" \/>I love blue flowers&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bluelily.jpg\" alt=\"Blue lotus\" class=\"floatright\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pinktiny.jpg\" alt=\"Little pink flowers\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n<p>OK, enough for tonight.
