But today is <em class=\"b\">Clean Out Your Fridge Day <\/em>(really!) and I just couldn&#8217;t pass up posting about it.<\/p>\n<p>According to the folks at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.practicallyedible.com\/edible.nsf\/pages\/cleanoutyourrefrigeratorday\" target=\"_blank\">Practically Edible<\/a>, this weird idea for a holiday was started in 1995 by the Whirlpool company.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the evidence of my participation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-955\" title=\"National Clean Out Your Fridge Day\" src=\"http:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fridge.jpg\" alt=\"National Clean Out Your Fridge Day\" width=\"525\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fridge.jpg 525w, https:\/\/silenceoftheclams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fridge-300x242.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although I have only been home about 1 week during the past month, and my fridge has not been fully stocked since I returned, I was still able to find and clear out some icky stuff.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A lone egg in a carton with an expiration date in August<\/li>\n<li>A tub of grated Parmesan cheese that expired in 2008 (hidden behind the one that is still considered fresh).<\/li>\n<li>A moldy lemon in a baggie.<\/li>\n<li>A pint of LONG overdue buttermilk, which I had intended to use for moss cultivation and never got around to it.<\/li>\n<li> A nearly empty container of poppy seed dressing I had made a couple of months ago which was showing signs of life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So a bit of nastiness, but all in all not too bad.  I&#8217;ve seen <em>(and had)<\/em> worse.\u00c2\u00a0 At least all my veggies were still fresh.<\/p>\n<p>So go clean out your fridge &#8211; or at least open the door and inspect it.\u00c2\u00a0  Then come tell us about the most disgusting thing you find.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re waiting!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I know you were expecting Halloween pics &#8211; and they are coming.
