At various times I find I just can’t get enough of a certain food. Sometimes it’s beef stew or grilled cheese sandwiches (usually in winter).  Others times it may be a particular candy bar. In summers past, it has often been watermelon. I LOVE watermelon but this year I’ve been very disappointed in the crop. After one good melon, the rest have been tasteless or dry 🙁   Â
Happily, I stumbled upon a suitable replacement for my 2007 summer food addiction. I present to you, Newman’s Own Virgin Limeade.   Refreshing and delicious. And even better when on sale for 2 for $3.00 at Central Market.  The lemonade is good too, but I am partial to the limeade. It’s actually as good as my home-made version, and a heck of a lot more convenient.  Try some today 🙂
What are your summer food addictions?
Last year it was hot dogs. I know hot dogs are not good for you in many ways, but I was craving them something awful. I’ve wondered if it had something to do with my renal failure last may — short on some odd nutriant or something? This summer I haven’t had anything out of the ordinary, I don’t think. Chocolate is a year round craving.
Oh, yes, chocolate is a year round craving. Typically, for me, it is either Hersey’s Almond Bars (or Kisses) or Lindor Hazelnut Balls…. mmmmmm….
I actually had a hot dog craving earlier in the summer. That seems to happen every couple of years. It was satisfied after I finished off one bun-length package of Oscor Meyer Beef Franks (with cheese and mustard).
Good, fresh, ripe strawberries are always a craving for me, but especially in the summer. And good peaches, too. And, of course, let us not forget cookie dough ice cream….
I love limeade. The cherry limeade from Sonic is something I could replace water with and live on it. It’s probably Sprite, lime and cherry juice, but it’s still wonderful.
I’m craving corn on the cob.
You guys are making me hungry. I only crave hotdogs at a sporting event or if they are barbecued.
I will give the limeade a try, it sounds delish.
Lately I have craved Red Robin hamburgers, mainly the one made with bleu cheese and barbecue sauce. I had one yesterday and immediately wanted another.
I haven’t had a good cob of corn for ages…. and I’m trying to avoid Red Robin. They have the BEST burgers in town. I love the Bacon Cheeseburger…. it can be quite addicting.
You should come on over to one of our farmers markets. We got the best corn last week — I believe it was 5 for a dollar. Sweet, wonderful. I got yellow, white and mixed. All were good.
Fresh Peach Pie from Marie Calendars.. They only have it for about 3 weeks each August …it is heavenly
Homegrown tomatoes…can’t get the same flavor in the store bought.. Farmers markets are a good place to get them or friends who have gardens
We eat locally grown (I mean LOCALLY – in the field next door) corn all summer. Our farmer neighbors grow it right and pick it young. We celebrate the first day is comes on and go into mourning when they tell us the last patch has been picked. We buy half a dozen ears every two days and eat an ear and a half each day. YUM!
Our neighbor to the other side just invited us over to pick peaches. They are elderly and can no longer pick and put up their fruit. Our peach tree died years ago. We made big batches of peaches and cream. We took some to a barbecue on Labor Day and were told by two people there that they had NEVER had peaches and cream before. I find that so hard to believe, especially here in Utah where we get the best peaches.
