My first beer

I bought my first beer today.    I had to ask assistance from a fellow Albertson’s shopper to even find it – and then asked her recommendation for a good beer for snails.

She looked confused.  “Snails?” she asked.  “You’re serving beer with snails, or do you want to cook with it??

No.” I replied.  “I want to lure them to their drunken deaths in my garden.”

She looked relieved for some reason.  She was then quite helpful in pointing out that the single cans were in the walk in cooler room (something unheard of in Utah Albertsons), and that I wanted a high gravity beer – which apparently have more alchohol.   She thoughtfully  suggested a can of Steel Reserve and I bought it.

I set out a couple of pie tins and poured the beer into them.  I wonder if the slugs/snails will appreciate the fact that is is slow brewed for exceptionally smooth flavor?

  1. You should have bought one for you as well. Everyone needs to imbibe now and then. I think the snails shall appreciate the higher content of alcohol. I love the befuddled response of the Albertsons worker.

  2. That was very thoughtful of you to buy some premium beer for the snails. At least they’ll be enjoying a tasty beverage during those last few minutes (hours?) of their lives.

  3. Well, two slugs – just under 2″ long, both had a good long drink last night and are lying in the bottom of their pool.

    2 down, 4,350,222 to go.

  4. 2 more down – 4,350,220 to go!

Michelle, I’ve never had even the most remote desire to try beer – it smells so nasty! However, this the aroma of this lager was really pretty good. I still didn’t taste it, as I have learned smells can be deceiving…. I was tricked into trying a bit of red wine because of the fruity scent. But it tasted nothing like the smell – it was so bitter! I like my drinks sweet like the fruit and will take sparkling grapejuice any day : )

**I have had champagne a couple of times and quite enjoyed it.

  5. I hope you get all 4,350,222 of the little slimy things.I put out some bait this morning. I saw 3 of the nasty little critters climbing up the window well as I looked out the laundy room window. YUCK !
