I was born a platinum blond with annoyingly stubborn waves (which my mom loved, but I have fought with my whole life). I have had a love-hate relationship with my hair for over 40 years, and have prepared this retrospective for your viewing pleasure.
The ringlet years.

The awkward years.

The (in)famous “waterfall”
… which my mother insisted was really beautiful, but for which I was mercilessly teased (particularly by Michelle). You can see how happy I am about the response I got. Needless to say, I only wore it once
The rain gutter (and Gunne Sax) years.

The henna years.

The my-hair-is-long-and-I-have-no-idea-what-to-do-with-it years.

Quite abruptly my hair decided to be dark brown (all on its own). And very 8o’s.

The short years.

The perm years (scary).

The back to blonde years.

The purple month (Paul, what were we thinking???!!!).

The auburn years

The “I-forgot-how-much-work-short-hair-is-so-I’m-growing-it-out” transition

The bob years (with the use of giant velcro rollers and roller brush).

The embracing my inner wave (with the help of smoothing and scrunching products) years.

The wonderful FLAT IRON years. Â
I’ve finally tamed those waves with the help of Sedu and Chi!

Now don’t you wish some of these styles would come back into fashion? LOL…..
Just sitting here trying to remember what it was like to have hair
Oh how I enjoyed those pictures, brought back a lot of fond memories of your love/hate relationship with your hair. I remember that just shampooing it took a small village, and that it took 3 days to dry. I did especially enjoy the waterfall, you reminded me of a Spanish Senorita.
Is that “Butterball you are holding?”
I love your ski tan, in the Gunne Sax dress…remember how cool we thought we were to collect our lift passes and keep them all pinned to our parkas? LOL.
Is that last picture recent?
I love that cute photo of you and Jeston. Kristen looks just like J’neil in that other photo. Amazing all the different ways you have had your hair over the years.
Wow, Mom! These are great! I remembe you in some of those styles, too – many of which I rather like on you. You left out one my favorite hair pictures though, when it was blonde and down to your waist. It’s amazing how much a hairstyle can do to change your appearance.
lolol… these are great. Thanks for posting all of them. As much as I change my hairstyles, I’m definitely not as adventurous as you have been.
I absolutely love that white/cream dress. You don’t still have it, do you?… 😉
Yes, Michelle, that is Butterball. I wondered if you’d notice and remember him. Remember how when we gently tossed him up in the air his tail would twirl around like a helicopter?
And the bottom pic was taken yesterday – so pretty recent 🙂
Ashley, I would have loved to hang on to that Gunne Sax dress – but the skirt was made of gauze and totally broke down after several years….. I loved that dress too 🙂
Gee, all the different styles… You’re the Hays Family Madonna… : )
I liked the bob the best. And the one right above it…
Like Paul, I’m trying to remember when I had enough hair to make any change… Hate the bald spot..
Oh what fun to see and remember all the hair styles ( and clothes) You have always had beautiful hair !!It was so easy and fun to curl your hair around my finger for the ringlets. You were beautiful in ALL the pictures to me. Even the awkward years. But what was I thinking with that TALL/HIGH style I was wearing??? Thanks for the memories.
I hope you still have those cat eye glasses somewhere. And I actually kind of like the purple hair (and definitely the auburn)! Also loving the glamour shot and the Gunne Sax dress–I still have a couple of mine somewhere….
Your hair looks really nice now as well, and you look great–are you still losing tons of weight? This was very enjoyable, Allison, I think my hair is still trying to figure what it wants to be when it grows up.
What a fun post! Sadly, most of my life my hair has been the same. I am one of those people who is deathly afraid of change. I don’t try new things often. I wish I had the courage to try something different, but I think I have a fear of the unknown.
Allison Darling: You could be bald and still look fabulous! Great pics, thanks for sharing.
lol lol. You look very cute in a lot of these Allison. My favorite, of course, are the awkward years. Those glasses are THE BEST.
I love most of these….Especially the Long Henna …. and the Short years picture… You have always been beautiful and you do have beautiful hair. I used to covet it for my girls…None of them of course had it.
Many good memories in these photographs.. Loved the Gunny Sack dresses…..
I so enjoyed the look back at hair you have known. I always wished for your hair… I have heard you curse it many times, but as a kid I loved it.
BTW… The photo of the “permed” days was my favorite by far, though I clearly remember the “waterfall” photo op. You were NOT amused.
