Found it!

You may recall that last year I painted a wall in my bedroom with metallic paints.   Since then, my bedroom has been “almost” complete.   However, something was missing.  The wall at the foot of my bed contained a boring bookshelf that accumulated books, photo albums and miscellaneous crap…  not very bedroom-like.

So I began a quest for a piece of furniture.  Something that would complete the room, and give me a place to put candles and my sand garden. I didn’t really need a dresser, but wanted something dresser like.  I found JUST what I wanted several months ago at a local import store – an antique Chinese chest.  Perfect size, perfect look – but way out of my budget.

So I kept looking.  And looking.  And looking.  Found a few things online that might work, but most were far too expensive or the wrong size.   And I wouldn’t dare buy them without visually inspecting them.

Feeling inspired to do my part to stimulate the economy, I went out on a couple of weeks ago and hit the local furniture stores to see what I could find.   Nada.  Zip.

My wonderful antique Chinese chestSo I stopped back into Far Fetched Furniture to see if they had imported anything new and more affordable.  And there it was. My perfect Chinese cabinet sitting right next to the door.

On sale. But still out of my budget.

I wandered the store, but kept coming back to it.   The sales guy, desparate to make sale in this economy, knocked a couple hundred more off of the price – making it nearly 1/2 off, and I caved.

I introduce you to my 90 year old Chinese cabinet.  Isn’t it perfection? I smile everytime I look at it.

Do you have any piece of furniture that makes you happy?

  1. I don’t know about you, but my decorating is a trial and error thing. I know what looks good, but can’t put it together in my head first. I’ll buy tile that I put up and say, “now I have to paint the walls so I can tie this in”. I painted a bathroom a real nice gold color once, and didn’t take into consideration the pink sink. That one was not tie-in-able. My motto is ,”there are no mistakes, just imbelishment opportunities. (Christopher Lowell). I just ordered tile for my bathroom on line. Who knows what I will have to do to make it work. In response, I can’t think of one thing that makes me smile except my car. I’m kind of a car guy. My house is actually very nice, considering most of the furniture was free and alot of the accents were home made. I’m just getting to the piont where I think it’s ok to buy important pieces and smile a little. Good for you. I think the next house will be my masterpiece.

  2. gold walls with a pink sink? Maybe if it was gold leaf and you were Zsa Zsa Gabor… 🙂

I love Christopher Lowell…. and I”m really looking forward to seeing your place (and your car 🙂 )

  3. Beautiful and it does look just perfect ! :o) I’m so hppy you were able to get just what you desired and at a good price or at least a much better price. I have a few pieces of .furniture I have smiled at, but after 10 years ..I’m not smiling at them much anymore. I think I’d like something different

  4. What great find for you! I think my favorite piece of furniture is the leather chair next to the piano. Troubles seem so much smaller while I’m sitting in it. 🙂

  5. Very pretty! I don’t have much furniture that makes me happy since anything nice is prompty ruined by small children. But….we got new mattresses a couple years ago and I LOVE my bed, and I love decorating it with pretty pillows, so I guess that counts, right.

  6. You have such great taste! Really you do. I love the Chinese cabinet, but what I still love the most is that wall you created, damn you and your limitless talents. Also, the pic above the cabinet is amazing, just gorgeous.

  7. I love your cabinet…. On the news recently they said most furniture stores and many other kinds of stores will now deal because diminished price is better than no sale. GOOD JOB ! you stimulated the economy, got a good deal and a wonderful piece of furniture..
I love my bed and my curio cabinet.. both were little extravagances.. I just need to continue to de-junk, when I look at your perfect bedroom I realize I still have to much stuff in mine.
