Kitty has a name. Actually he has two names. I call him Sweetness, because he is such a sweet, cuddly fellow – lies with his head resting on my shoulder as I brush him. Â
But his formal name is Sir Hides-a-lot.  He is a complete scaredy cat, who hides the moment he hears a knock on the door or any loud or mysterious noise. Here are a few of his favorite spots.
This is one of his “safest” places, because no one can reach him. He wedges himself in a little nook between my desk and the wall & peeks out into the living room.  Â
He also likes to hide behind the washing machine in the laundry closet but I couldn’t get a photo.
Â
He wouldn’t stop meowing in the kitchen (even after being fed), so I opened the cupboard door and he happily sat behind the mixmaster for an hour.

Here he is behind the vcr/dvd player in my media cabinet.
He can sleep here for hours. Another favorite spot.

An occasional favorite spot is behind the fax machine – which is on the top shelf of a bottom cupboard in the kitchen.
He seems to have an attraction to electric appliances, doesn’t he?
And finally, in the credenza in my office. I thought he’d escaped a week or so ago when I left the door open to run upstairs to tell my neighbor she was flooding my condo.
I searched all his favorite spots and outside as well – but no kitty. After about 5 hours, I heard a soft banging behind me in the cupboard (where I really had looked). I opened the door and there he was, nap over and ready to socialize again. He spent every day there while the fans were on, drying out the carpet.
Fellow cat owners – is this normal?
I would say your kitty is completely normal. Fatness loves tight dark places (cupboards) but he will socialize and come out to see visitors (unless they are children). Some kitties are just more friendly than others. Sweetness is still becoming used to a new owner and a new home, he will probably relax a little after awhile. How long have you had him again? He is soooo CUTE.
Yes, Sweetness is being very normal and very feline. Some cats are just more social than others and all cats love tight spots to sleep where no one will bug them. Plus, the electronics are maybe kind of warm to snuggle against. He’ll get used to your place and come out to be with you more and more.
He is so cute and soft. Silly kitty!
Completely normal, but also a complete scaredy cat. Or maybe just shy. He will come out and socialize a bit with others if they are there long enough… and if they aren’t using a vacuum.
When it is just the two of us – especially at night, he is ALL cuddles. Wants to be curled up on my chest, or sitting on my hands as I type, or perched between me and the computer screen as if to say “I will NOT be ignored.”
He loves to be brushed – which is a good thing, as he has and endless undercoat…..
Oh yes, he is so adorable… it was a fun game, looking for Sweetness. I loved cuddling with him when I found him. 😀 He really is such a handsome cat. I would date him if I were a female cat. And if I were single. And if cats actually dated. Do they?
Well, I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. He’d probably be great for a kitty cuddle – but since he’s a neutered cat, it would be a mighty disappointing date if you were expecting some hot cat sex 🙂
I’m afraid I would find it disturbing to have a cat show up in such unexpected places. Of course, his being nuetered is just plain disturbing no matter where he shows up…
cute kitty and funny antics.
Our 3 ‘wild’ kittens that seemed to turn tame overnight have such different personalities. One of them runs in the house every chance she gets. You can’t open the door that she doesn’t run under your feet and inside. The one with white feet and white on her face will not go inside. She wants to, but will not. She is the jumpiest thing. Steffan created a cat house from a big packing box, and he wrapped it several layers in packing tape to waterproof it.. and it’s in the covered area between the house and the garage… The 3 cats sleep in it. But if you approach that area, this jumpy kitten bolts from there and heads for the area under the porch.
The 3rd kitten is a combination of the other two. She will come in if coaxed, and she will let you hold her, but only for a short time. But she can be a bit jumpy too.
The mother is pregnant again, and one of my goals for this week was to catch her and take her to a shelter. But I’ve run out of time. If only I had a carrier and transportation to get her there…. I’m afraid we’ll have more kitten here again.
They’re such dumb creatures. I moved an outside table close to the kitchen window so that the side of the house would block the wind for them. They have their water bowl on the top of the table. They like to sit on there and watch us inside. Before, there was about two feet between the table and the window. But now, there is just inches. I can’t tell you how many times the one who loves to be inside has lunged forward in an effort to join us, and got herself brained senselss from the glass. Do you think she would learn? No way. Surprisingly the jumpy kitten with white on her face lunged today and she did it from atop a chain link fence that sits kitty corner from the side window. It’s a long drop to the ground because there is no porch under that window. She hit the window hard and I looked down to the ground from there and she was stunned. I thought she really had hurt herself, but then her sister went down there to check on her, and they play fought so I knew she was okay.
Anyway, we need to catch the mother and take her in. And we need to catch the 3 young-uns and get them fixed…. and take only two back.
