My tv heroes – as themselves:
- Jon Stewart
- Keith Olberman
- Tim Gunn
- Bill Moyers
- I guess Oprah – she inspires a lot of people
My favorite tv characters (current shows)
- Shawn (and Gus) – Psyche (USA, and now on NBC, too!)
- Detective Goren – Law and Order: Criminal Intent (NBC/USA)
- Deputy Director Brenda Lee Johnson – The Closer (TNT)
My favorite ensembles – enjoy the interaction between the characters
- NCIS (especially Abby)Â (CBS & USA)
- Stargate SG1Â (SciFi & ?)
I’m sure I’ve neglected to include someone I’ll think of later, but these standout tonight. Â
I’m so glad Psyche is on network tv now… it’s really one of my favorite shows, but none of my friends have discovered it on the USA network. Watch it!
So who are some of your current tv heroes, favorite tv characters and ensembles?
I’m done with Oprah.
I have just discovered “Friday Night Lights” thanks to Chris. I’m in love with the show.
I have no t.v. heroes because I only watch crappy stuff like “Dancing With The Stars” I do worship Jon S. though.
OK — so Pauley Perrette’s character Abby on NCIS is one of my favorites on prime time television. I go in spurts watching the series, but she is a favorite. It’s extraordinary because tatoos, piercings, the whole subculture she is emblematic of is kind of a turn off for me. But the character is smart, witty, sassy, bold, and yet vulnerable and sweet at the same time — not sure how she pulls it off!
I tend to like a lot of the competition/reality shows; Survivor, Amazing Race, but not the salacious ones like Big Brother. One show that I almost never miss though is “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” — I know it is formula and does a lot of product placement, but it still has heart, and I especially like Michael, Paul, and Paige. Some of the families they pick are truly deserving. I also think its cool that they have figured out how to do this without the big IRS payouts. (They lease the homes and do ‘tenant’ improvements.)
LOL, Michelle on being done with Oprah. She wasn’t on my list initially, because I don’t watch her show… but she does inspire so I threw her in there. Have you watched any esisodes of her “Big Give”?
I was not aware, John, how Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” did accomplished that without the IRS issue…. that is very cool. That is another show I really enjoy too. Something hopeful amidst all the crime dramas and negative news…
I completely concur with your assessment of Abby.
Jon S. is great. And I actually do like Psyche. I watched it at your place and I liked it, and then I’ve watched a few episodes online. Pretty dang funny.
The Office is probably my top favorite TV show right now (it starts up again tomorrow night!!).
As far as TV heroes… I don’t watch enough TV to have a hero. Unless of course you mean superheroes- and then we can get into the whole series of “Heroes,” which I’d be more than happy to discuss.
Man, it’s been forever since I’ve popped in on this. Looks like I have a LOT of reading to do!!!
I can’t say too much on this topic as I don’t have enough time to watch any TV. Maybe I need a break! ;c)
I really need to check out Psych. What night is it on (please not Thursday)? I think my TV heros are the coach on Friday Night Lights and his wife, Michael on the Office because he is an idiot but you still love him, and the whole friggin cast of Battlestar Galactica. They are real, heroic, funny and the men are Hawt. Can’t get better than that.
Love Jon S. as well. I don’t catch his show much, though.
Isn’t it the whole frackin cast of Battlestar Galactica? 🙂 For some reason I never got into it, though the performances seem stellar the episodes I did watch. It just seemed really heavy and dark after the fun of Stargate SG1 (same night of TV). I think Battlestar is in it’s last season now, isn’t it?
Chris, do you enjoy Dr. Who with David Tennant?
I think Psych is on NBC on Sundays… it was on USA (and probably will be again when new epsiodes start up in July) on Fridays. Though they often replayed the episode on Saturday.
Allison, sorry I haven’t answered your questions, No, I haven’t watched Dr. Who, it looks fun and campy but not really my style. I haven’t actually watched more than 5 minutes of it though. I do like David Tennant.
Yes, FRAKKIN BSG, it is heavy and dark and this final season is no exception. It takes itself pretty seriously since the characters are trying to survive and find Earth. Some of the best acting and plots I have ever seen, though. But, no, it isn’t lighthearted anymore at all.
I’m glad Psych is on a day where I can actually watch it!!
My favorites are sitcoms.. I like to laugh and keep it light. I think I have watched every episode of Everybody loves Raymond.
Marie reminds me SO MUCH of Dougs Mother. Her attitude towards me was much like Maries toward Debra.
I an enjoying Back to You with Kelsy Grammer and Patrica Heaton. It is fun, silly and entertaining.
I have trouble falling asleep at night so I like Nick at Night..entertains me but if I fall asleep its no big deal.
I don’t care for reality shows. Exception: I do like Extreame makeover home edition. The big give is OK .
PBS and discovery channel have a lot of good things to watch when I am in the mood. seems I mostly keep the TV on for noise in the house while I am doing other things.
