With a roadtrip planned to the Olympic Peninsula with Brandon (my son) and his family this past weekend, it seemed like the perfect time to finally start reading the Twilight Saga. So I ordered the first two books from Amazon and they arrived the day before we left.Â
My brief review: I really enjoyed it. I, like Michelle, wish it had been written as an adult novel rather than for teens – would have enjoyed more depth and less filler. Neverthertheless, I think Stephanie Meyer has crafted an original and compelling story. And reading it in the book’s setting made it come even more alive for me, so to speak.Â
I finished up Twighlight while lying in bed at the Forks Motel on Sunday night, after a visit to the Hoh rain forest. Started New Moon the next day and stayed up til 4:30am Tuesday night to finish it – just couldn’t put it down even though I was exhausted. Ordered Eclipse and Breaking Dawn from Amazon today…
Of course I took my camera with me and captured a few images of this breathtaking country. I created a special page for you to view them. I think I live in the most beautiful state in the nation…Â

then come back and share your thoughts. Do you recognize any scenery described in the the book?  Can you spot any vampires?
*The page may take a few moments to load.
Wow, Forks looks really nice. It looks so green! I’m in the middle of New Moon, my friend Briana got me into them, I really liked Twilight, but since there is a lack of.. “certain characters” the second one is going a bit slower.
*gasp!* after looking at those pictures again, I did see a vampire!
LOL!! Yes, I noticed him lurking quietly off the to side, too. Amazing pictures. I want to go there. I can really see this working as a setting for these books. I was going to mention which pictures I like best, but then really couldn’t narrow it down.
I agree- from the states I have visited, you definitely live in the most beautiful one. I’m so amazed that you actually captured a picture of Edward. Way to go 🙂
BEAUTIFUL pictures, mom. And I’m really glad you like the books, so far. They are just good books that take you away from the mundane life.
I cannot believe how beautiful it is there…that field of purple flowers!! And those stones on the beach are exactly as she described in the books. She said there’s a lot of logging going in that area, and that’s the only thing that mars the beautiful scenery. 🙁
Gorgeous pics, Allison. Glad you are enjoying the books, they are a nice diversion, and good stories. Maybe you can read her adult SCi Fi novel next.
Oh Allison, these images are breathtaking! I have to come back and see this place first hand. I have no idea what these books are, would someone enlighten me?
Maybe we should plan a girls retreat up here…. rent a cabin on Lake Crescent or something and spend the weekend exploring the area and finding spots mentioned in the book 🙂
Yes a girls retreat would be perfect. Alli cat you never fail to amaze me with your talents! That pic of night/water gave me chills. I love the hanging moss and the driftwood (just as described in the book), I did spot Edward in the last shot, lol, perfect. Thanks for getting these online so soon. I’m halfway through Eclipse…like Ashley said they are a nice fun diversion from our mundane exsistence.
p.s. Alli, was there any type of salute to the Twilight books as you strolled through Forks? I would imagine these books are quite a boon for a small town.
Not really that I noticed. But we didn’t spend a lot of time in Forks – just slept at the motel, ate at one restaurant and bought sweatshirts for the girls at the Thriftway…. and stopped to take a photo of the “welcome to Forks” sign just as we were leaving town.
If I had been traveling alone I’d have spent more time in town and such. But Brandon was driving and we had little girls in the car – lots of different things they wanted to do/see while on the trip. I really would like to take another weekend trip back there and be more leisurely about it…. wanna come? 🙂
Great photos Allison. I’ve only been to Washington twice. I tried to get us out to the Olympic peninsula on the first trip when we spent a week, but I couldn’t make it work. We did get into the forest of Mount Ranier on a very socked in and rainy day.
These photos remind me of visiting the rain forest on our Alaska trip. That type of scenery is so exotic to me, growing up in the most beautiful state in the union, here in Utah. Ours is a desert beauty.
Yeah, I have to take you to task on the most beautiful state claim. I value the huge diversity of environs we have here. WA is beautiful with its intense greens, but it makes me feel a bit claustrophobic to be on a highway that is merely a tunnel through the trees for miles on end. I like to see more of the landscape than just the trees.
But I will certainly be a happy tourist in your state any time. Next trip we WILL make it to the OP.
OH the scenery is absolutely gorgeous and the way you have of capturing just the right angel. I’m happy to see you have the copy right for them. You should be able to seel them !! Actually I might have spied a vampire in one or two of the photos.
I haven’t read the books. I have talked to many that like you couldn’t put them down until they had finished them and then I have a couple of friends that just couldn’t get into them and didn’t finish the first book.
Beautiful! Az has its moments but pics like this make me sad i live in the boring desert.
It’s no wonder, Pam, that you like the desert… you are a Leo, which is a fire sign… summer, heat, etc 🙂
I am a Pisces – water sign…. so it’s the rain, ocean, lakes, rivers that I find beautiful. Interestingly, most of my closest friends are also water signs…..
Yes I wanna come.
I am so glad to hear that you are liking the twilight series. I really think you will be pleased with how she ends it all. They are very interesting novels. I met her once, and she’s great!
I love the pictures you took in Forks! I am jealous. I am going to live in Washington someday and I would love to go visit there. It is the most gorgeous state! Maybe we will be neighbors someday….
Oh, and thank you so much for your comment about my grandma. It’s amazing the connections that you can make with your internet friends, my whole family and all of my in-laws read my blog and none of them posted a comment on that particular post. So thanks! It made my day. =)
I love this series of books. Jessica (Chauntelle’s 14 year old) got Chauntelle, Tori, Me and Wyatt all reading them…Such fun.
I could not put any of them down once I started reading.
I just saw the movie twilight today and got facinated with the scenery in the movie. Was searching the net and saw your pictures. Your photos are beautiful. I would probably plan a trip some time towards Wasington and surely visit the Olympic Peninsula
I stumbled across your site and just had to say the images are breathtaking..
I live in New York but visit out that way whenever I can,
I have been up that way several times and always see something different and new
OH. MY. GOSH! your pictures are A-MAZE-ZING! They’re so clear, and for any one who’s read the twilight books, show exactly what Stephenie described.
Allison, I’m blown away by your photos….you are so talented!! The Peninsula of Washington State is breathtaking, and I hope this movie and your incredible pictures don’t expose our secret treasure too much!!
Dear Alison, I realy liked your pictures as I am found of forest! your views of this nice place are really wonderfull.!
Hello Allison!
Your photos are really stunning! I’m speechless. I live in Germany, because of that it’s not so easy for me to gaze at these locations live. Would you send some of your Photos to my email account, please? I’d like to print some of them on canvas to put it up. Please write back to my email account.
Thank you
Yasmin
The photos that Alison had taken are beautiful. It makes me want to go and see it. Maybe I will. I know my girls want to go go to Forks.
I really love the pictures. They are so beautiful. It makes me really want go there. My girls really want to move there. Summer
