I’m still rather distraught about the passage of Prop 8 in California, and what that says about our society.
Please watch this special comment by Keith Olbermann…. it’s not one of his rants, I promise. His expressions are heartfelt, and his gentle questions to those that would deny others the joy of marriage are questions which I would love to have considered and answered.  If you voted for Prop 8 (or would have if you could), I urge you to watch this brief video. It’s a questions of love for our fellow human beings.
My this thread is popular!
I also think it’s crazy that people still think that being gay or lesbian is a choice. Science, psychology–everything!–has all but absoultely proven through evidence and research that it is NOT a choice.
What I think is funny (sarcasm) is that so many Mormons even think this still. If they listened to much of the dialogue that has come directly from their leaders (sometimes I think as a “Nonmember” I understand their church better than many devout members), they would hear basically the same thing: it is not a choice to be gay. The LDS Church has changed its stance on this issue gradually. They don’t allow or sanction the “act,” of course, but they don’t officially condemn just “being gay,” any longer. Until just a couple years ago, a student at BYU could be suspended just for admitting he or she was gay. Now, that is not the case.
So when it comes to legal matters–issues like civil marriage that don’t affect their Church–it makes no logical sense for a Mormon to support stripping away the rights of gay couples. And without logic, a person acting solely on blind (albeit ignorant) faith than that person is, well, stupid. Harsh, maybe, but I believe it.
so I can re-enroll at BYU again and fulfill my lifelong dream of spending more time in Provo??? …I can tell – just don’t act?? Seems somehwat familiar…
Yes, the whole thing is still absolutely ridiculous.
And I think I know what you were hinting at, Craig…
Thank you Leslie… for such heartfelt support.
Josh, Craig…. I must be dense in the head.. I didn’t get the hint about BYU… LOL…
Well, you all have been talking about Robert Pattison in this movie Twilight… he has another movie out, called Little Ashes. Is anyone familiar with it? He plays Salvador Dali in 1922 when he was in college in Spain, and was lovers with Frederico Garcia Lorca. Lorca is considered Spain’s greatest poet. Dali couldn’t deal with the stigma of being with another man, so he eventually married, etc. This is their story. Lorca was murdered by Franco’s followers during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. I did some research on him tonight, and he was an amazing person. Many videos dedicated to him on You Tube…
Here is a link to the website for the movie, and in the ‘video’ section is the trailer..
