I’ve met several of Ashley’s friendly neighbors while staying here. I’ve talked gardening with Linda and her partner Sara from next door. Another dropped by with her kids, bearing cookies, to introduce herself. Was delighted to learn they have a girl Kennedy’s age.
One neighber, in particular, is very nice and helpful, but a bit odd… an older German man named Werner who Kennedy asked one day “why do you talk and talk?”
He DOES talk and talk…. and talk…. and talk…. The other day my mom stopped by to visit and he kept her verbally captive for quite some time. He tried to convince her he’d met her the day before (it was me he’d met… )
When I came out of the house she said, “No, I’m HER mother… you met HER.”
It was sprinkling and I gleefully cried out – “Oh, it’s raining just for me – I miss Seattle.”
He looked at me and said, “It’s good we’re all different – good to have different kinds of people.”
I assumed (and I imagine you will too) that he was going to launch into a verbal essay about how some people like warmth and sun, and some like rain and cooler temps, etc…. but no. No, that’s not what he said.
Instead, what came out of his mouth was this….
“Yes, some people are big (as he held his hands out kind of wide… and I can only assume he was referring to me), some are smaller (as he moved his hands in a little closer… referring to my mother???) and some are even smaller still…. I like them all. It’s good to be different.”
My mom and I exchanged perplexed looks and I couldn’t decide whether to burst out laughing or punch him in the mouth. I opted for standing there dumbfounded, followed by a quick escape to the back yard.
Fool! LOL.. what else can you do but laugh..
He’s lonely. Why don’t you ask him about himself, y’know things like, Did you ever meet Hitler? What do you think of Freud? Was your wife deaf?
It was so good to visit with you and Kennedy for a little while. You look beautiful. Kennedy is such a fun cute little girl. I thought it a bit funny Kennedy told me about her neighbor what sure talked a lot then said “I think he’s coming over to my house”. Sure enough he did and sure enough she was RIGHT!! He talks soooooooooooo much.
I love Ashley’s home and yard. She is going to have so much fun making it reflect her very own personality.
It sure is nice you could and would tend her so Ash and Justin could have this time together and great for you to enjoy your darling granddaughter. It sounds like you have been keeping very busy :o)
I do not like odd neighbors who hold you captive with boring conversation. I did love the retelling of your story…sounds like you are having fun with Kennedy…we need pics of the slumber part!
LOL… Yes, Werner does talk and talk. He is SUCH a sweet old lonely man. And some of the things he says are completely random and out of the blue. I have no idea where he was going with that “people are different” thing… how odd.
This is so totally bizarre! Sounds like he’s a better conversationalist than Lynn.
